Patient: Chi Chi
Age/Sex/Breed: 1 year old spayed female Chihuahua
First presented on 7/29/09 for neurological signs, vomiting, enteritis. Had recently been spayed and vaccinated. Rimadyl had previously been prescribed. Improved after stopping the Rimadyl.
8/17/10 Presented for annual physical. Had noticeable discomfort of both ear flaps with cracking, scabs, bleeding and disfigured borders. Vitals signs were healthy.
Biopsies were unavailable. Suspected causes would be: vaccine induced vasculitis/vasculopathy, immune-mediated ischemic dermatitis, idiopathic ischemic vasculitis.
8/17/10 Started Ramaekers Veterinary Immune Tabs
Traditional Therapy: Not Used.
Would have included some of the following--- doxycycline/niacinamide combination, Immuno-suppressive drugs: pentoxifylline, topical tacrolimus, oral cyclosporine, topical & oral prednisolone
11/1/10 Chi Chi's ear flaps are markedly improved. The discomfort & scabs are gone and showing healthy hair growth.
Comments: My opinion is that the most common cause for these symptoms is vaccine related immune disorders.
Attending Veterinarian: Dr. Bill Burlingame
8/2012: Chi Chi continues to do well without any drug therapy.
